Our Commitment
Your recordings and data are always under your control. EchoNote is built on three principles: local-first, minimal permissions, user-driven.
Recordings & Transcription
All audio recordings and speech-to-text transcriptions are stored entirely on your device. EchoNote uses the iOS built-in speech recognition framework to transcribe locally. No audio is uploaded to any EchoNote-operated server.
If you enable iCloud sync, recordings and transcripts sync between your own devices through your Apple account, stored in your iCloud storage and governed by Apple's privacy policy. EchoNote cannot access your iCloud data.
AI Features
Content is sent to our cloud AI service only when you explicitly trigger AI Organize, AI Chat, or a Thinking Report. What is sent may include transcript text, your questions and conversation context, and — within the scope you select — recording titles, tags, summaries, and statistics. Audio files are never sent.
- To display results and avoid duplicate billing, the server retains AI-generated output (such as Thinking Reports and suggestions), linked to your anonymous account. It contains no audio
- All transfers are encrypted via HTTPS
- You can choose not to use any AI features — recording and transcription work fully offline
Subscriptions & Payments
EchoNote subscriptions are handled through Apple's App Store and StoreKit.
- We do not collect any payment information or personally identifiable information
- Subscription verification only confirms your subscription status
- All payments are securely processed by Apple
Data We Don't Collect
EchoNote does not collect:
- Personal identity information (name, email, phone number)
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Location data
- Usage analytics or behavioral data
Data Deletion
When you delete a recording in the app, it first moves to Recently Deleted, where it can be recovered during a retention period (7, 30, or 90 days, configurable in Settings; default 30 days). Once the period expires or you empty it manually, the audio file, transcription, and AI results are permanently erased. Uninstalling the app removes all local data; if iCloud sync is enabled, cloud copies follow iCloud's deletion policy and can be managed in iCloud settings.
Third-Party Services
EchoNote uses the following third-party services:
- Apple App Store — App distribution and subscription management
- Apple iCloud — Optional cross-device sync (data stored in your iCloud account)
- Cloud AI Service — Text analysis only when user-triggered; AI-generated output is retained to display your results (no audio)
Children's Privacy
EchoNote is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Policy Changes
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify users through an app update. We recommend checking this page periodically.
